Painting studies for ‘The Picnic’
Early painting studies for the biggest canvas i’ve ever used. Little Remi and his hands as he grasps his Granddad for safety. Such a tender moment.
A photo sent to me by my daughter on a visit to my mother. My brother and me in a coach built double pram that also had a fringe on top. I am hoping the camera has distorted my head although my smile looks like it didn’t hurt.
Studio dog
Just a little water colour of the studio dog…..have a restful Easter xx
Largest canvas
Started the preps on the largest canvas I have ever worked on. I have done a couple of murals years ago, but this is the largest canvas. A grandson, a son and a father …3 ages of man. 150x100cm.
Painting of a different kind
Painting the wall in the house today….more coats needed me thinks!
Kite flyers
The final piece…quite an emotional time painting the memories, I will have greater respect for the memories of others when I get the chance to paint them.
Twins
Block painting done, now to add the detail…this is a memory of my twin brother and I on a beach in France We were flying a kite in the freezing wind in a vast grey/blue landscape. We were about 7years old and I thought the kite was going to carry me away….but my brother hung on.
A poignant time ..our mother used to dressed us alike with matching dress, trouser fabrics and identical coats. We were soon to be treated very differently and kept mostly separate, as our ‘twiness’ became more about us and less about our mother.
Coming up to 60yrs old we are more in touch now than ever and i know the deep connection for each other never really went away, we were just in the middle of someone else’s storm.
This is for my brother when he finally returns from living in LA. When he comes home.
Photography day
This lovely man taking photos of all the art in the house…of my making. I guess he is too as he is Francis my son xx
Eddie the studio dog loves him too…
Snow Day
Beautiful light cast from the snow on the building outside the studio window. Excellent bright contrast, great for starting the new week.
Champagne breakfast
Champagne for breakfast this morning as the clients came along to collect their portrait. Lovely compliments as the the companionship and togetherness I saw between them was picked up. Thank you both for allowing me to practice my skills and complete a two month trial with you guys as guinea pigs.
Now gone off to the framers and soon to be installed in their lovely house.
